Operating the platform relies on a chain of free tools — open source software, or fair-code / source-available when the license requires it. The goal is reproducibility (templates, cloning, snapshots), reversibility (backups, rollback) and orchestration (n8n, scripts), with no cloud dependency. Components whose license is not an OSI-approved open source license are flagged as such.
🔧 Tools & practices
| Tool | Role | License | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| Proxmox VE | VM templates, cloning, snapshots (vzdump) — not an independent backup | AGPLv3 | ✅ Active |
| n8n | AI workflow orchestration | fair-code (Sustainable Use) | 🟢 Active (VM300) |
| Bash / PowerShell scripts | Cross-OS operational automation | free / OS-native | ✅ Active |
| Docker & Compose | Reproducible containerized deployment | Apache-2.0 | ✅ Active |
| Secrets management (out of repo) | Secrets and keys kept out of code and out of Git | — | 🟡 Planned |
🎯 Skills demonstrated
- Reusable system templates (Ubuntu + Windows)
- VM cloning for reproducible deployment
- Snapshots before every critical change
- Proxmox snapshots (vzdump) — not yet an independent backup
- AI workflow orchestration with n8n
- IaC principles applied to the virtual infrastructure
- Selection of free / fair-code tools with explicit license distinctions
